How to transition from the military to the government

The conversion from the military to civilian life is never simple. Somebody who has spent most of his/her life in the military finds the civilian universe quite daunting. However, with sufficient studying one can smoothly transition from the military without any big problems. Many government jobs require to have the same values that are core in the military. They include honor, integrity and commitment. By following a planned procedure, achievement of goals is undoubtedly within reach.

Start by picking the right path that will connect to the civilian job you want. To establish your line of specialization, make a list of all your qualifications. Obtain the Verification of Military Experience and Training document. This document will provide information to write a resume. It provides information on the experiences that you have obtained and the training received while in the military. It also provides information on equivalent civilian jobs.

Establish a timeline and a checklist that will guide you during the preparation. It will help you avoiding the risk of overlooking something crucial. Take time to go to career fairs. Network with people who may be of assistance to you as you transition to civilian life. It could be required to enroll in a school to upgrade your skills in the area of your specialization. The GI Bill will facilitate the reimbursements of tuition fees for your diploma.
